DIY Shoe Rack for a Small Space

Shoes, shoes and more shoes!! With limited space in my closets and my love for shoes I was running out of room.  I had shoes in a plastic box under my bed and couldn't get to it easily.  I have sandals and flats hanging on my door which are easily accessible.  My dressy and professional heels needed to be sitting or hanging, not scrunched all over each other in a big plastic box. It was getting to be a big big dilema for me and I was getting really frustrated.

Under the bed......

I was hunting one day and saw this really cool distressed white ladder that was wide and not tall.  It was $15.00 so I told myself I had to find a use for it.  It was the middle of summer and gardening was at its peak so I figured it would work somewhere in the yard or garden.  To my dismay it was not working in the garden.  I was going to take it to my booth at the Antique Mall and use it for something but with only one wall I couldn't see it standing by itself.  And I haven't gotten my woodworking area together yet.

While cleaning my bedroom it just jumped into my head!  There is a spot of wall big enough next to my antique armoire/TV stand/filing cabinet.  Hmmmm.  That ladder/fence thing outside could hold all my high heels and very nicely I might add.  I went outside, scrubbed it really well with bleach water to make sure there wouldn't be any mold or bugs brought into my house.

When it dried I lugged it upstairs and have a look.

 TaDa!!

I can now see what shoes I actually have and it actually looks organized!

Don't forget to add something soft to the back of anything you lean against the wall to protect the wall.  I was out of the felt you add to the bottom of chairs so they don't scratch the floors so I ended up using the soft heel inserts for high heels that are too big.   I found that impromptu solution quite appropriate for my new high heel rack!!

Once the creative juices get going it's amazing what just comes to us!! Happy Hunting!

Wishing you Peace,
Anice

Testing how to add watermark/text to a photo

I have decided to stamp my pictures with something that makes it mine.  I tried to get photoshop but can't because my operating program doesn't support it.  I have Windows Vista.  Wouldn't you know!
So I have been researching for a simple and quick solution until I can upgrade to a new computer.
Where there is a will there is a way!!

The hunt was on and surprisingly quickly I stumbled upon an online photo editor called Pilxr.com.
I was amazed at how it is easy it was to pull up - no downloading involved.  Icing on the cake is that it is free and user friendly.  Cherry on top ----  fixed my problem in a jiffy.
For a novice like me it is a true treasure  find!

I can only add text to my photos but that is totally fine.
I have chosen AKD (Anice Keenan Designs) as my personal stamp and as you can see below I am undesiced on which font to use yet but I am having fun sampling them all.

                                                              How cool is that!!!

Blue Table Milk Paint on a Budget

This is my first DIY project I have attempted in a long time.  I have been going through my storage and getting pieces ready for my booth at, believe it or not "Treasure Hunt".  I had my blog before the Antique Mall was opened so I guess it was Meant To Be!!
I do not have a before picture, so I apologize.  I was so excited to get painting.
My friend who is a faux painter and I decided to not get paint from someone else.  We opted to make our own and create our own colors.  You can see our simple DIY method for our milk paint at this post here.  Here we are featuring "Paradise Blue".

                                                         These were taken outside.

Love the distressed detail that was so easy to achieve with a little steel wool.

These were taken inside.
The table looks darker and richer inside. Remember, things change color in different lighting.

The original color was a dirty gold.  We went right over the color.  No priming or sanding.  Process was paint with the milk paint - 2 coats, medium steel wool instead of a sander, and a coat of clear wax.  Since this is my first milk paint experience I opted for a clear wax from the hardware store.  I have to budget Annie Sloan and Miss Mustard Seed into my budget for their waxes and brushes later.  I do want to try them but as you can see I can achieve very good results on a budget.  After visiting so many wonderful blogs out there I can also see that I need a better camera so I apologize for the not so great pictures.

I can see this table in a room with white walls, white furniture and/or white accessories.  It would look just as nice with creamy cream, such as Sherwin Williams Creamy.  (I just finished  painting my bathroom in it and it's a soft white creamy color.  Looks just how I imagined.  I have an island beach theme in the bathroom so it accentuates all my favorite accessories.)
